Major move in U.S. AI + Science

The U.S. Department of Energy has announced partnerships with 24 organizations to support the Trump administration’s Genesis Mission, accelerating scientific discovery with AI.

The initiative connects 17 national labs and 40,000 researchers, focusing on nuclear energy, quantum computing, and advanced manufacturing.

Partners include OpenAI, Google DeepMind, Microsoft, NVIDIA, AWS, Anthropic, xAI, Palantir, AMD, Oracle, Cerebras, and CoreWeave.

AWS committed up to $50B in government AI infrastructure, with OpenAI models already deployed on Los Alamos’ Venado supercomputer.

Why it matters:

This is one of the most coordinated public-private AI efforts in U.S. history — aligning frontier AI, cloud scale, and national research capacity. The outcomes are uncertain, but the strategic intent and execution signal are unmistakable.
